NOAA Contract for Coastal Geospatial Services
Heartland Ecological Group, Inc. is proud to be a part of the Continental Mapping team awarded a $49M NOAA Contract for Coastal Geospatial Services. Our team will support NOAA’s mission nationwide by integrating geospatial services and the geosciences to address global climate change, resiliency, coastal development, land-use change, coastal hazards and conservation, marine spatial planning, and water quality. The contract’s scope supports coastal projects from littoral to wetland and benthic zones spanning across over 95,000 miles of coastline. Heartland is excited to support wetland services and other coastal conservation measures associated with this 5-year IDIQ contract.

New Navigable Waters Protection Rule
Today the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) began implementing the Navigable Waters Protection Rule.
Heartland’s Eric Parker Achieves “Assured Wetland Delineator” Status through WDNR
Heartland Ecological Group, Inc. is happy to announce that Eric Parker, a Principal Scientist at Heartland, has achieved “Assured Wetland Delineator” status under the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Wetland Delineation Assurance Program. Eric has completed thousands of wetland delineations over the last 30+ years in Wisconsin and throughout the U.S. Eric is based in Heartland’s Racine County satellite office and is well positioned to continue servicing his clients in Southeastern Wisconsin. With the addition of Eric into the wetland assurance program, Heartland has assured wetland delineators in the Milwaukee and Madison areas which will further streamline the wetland identification and regulatory process for our clients.
New State Wetland Regulatory Reform Bill Signed by Governor Walker
Governor Walker has signed into law Amendment 3 to Assembly Bill 547 now known as WIsconsin Act 183. This new law creates additional exemptions for artificial wetlands and certain nonfederal wetlands. There are also components of Act 183 that modify some requirements for wetland boundary delineations and DNR confirmations; creates wetland mitigation-related grant programs; and allows DNR to assume authority over the federal wetland program if the U.S. EPA agrees to delegate such authority to the State.
